Extension Requested for Ironworks Demolition

Highland councillors have been asked to grant additional time for the demolition of the former Ironworks music venue in Inverness.

Ironworks was the city’s only purpose-built entertainment venue of its kind, hosting performances by artists such as Calvin Harris, Biffy Clyro, and Babyshambles.

The venue closed in February 2023, with the owners planning to redevelop the site on Academy Street. Planning permission has already been secured for a hotel development.

Upland Properties Limited has submitted a request to Highland Council’s south planning applications committee seeking an extension of three years to commence the redevelopment project.

Final Shows Mark Ironworks’ Closure

To commemorate the venue’s final days, two sold-out concerts were held. Glasgow alternative rock band Twin Atlantic headlined the first night, while Highland-based indie folk group Elephant Sessions performed the following evening.

Both bands have strong ties to Ironworks, with Twin Atlantic making their 13th appearance at the venue.
