Opportunity to Rent a Farmhouse Near Historic Welsh Home

The National Trust is presenting a unique chance to reside in a farmhouse adjacent to one of Wales's most important historic sites.

Tenants of the three-bedroom Glan yr Afon farmhouse will be expected to maintain a "watchful eye" over Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, a National Trust property located in Conwy.

This unfurnished farmhouse is situated within the heart of Eryri National Park, featuring a stream flowing past the front and a private garden. The monthly rent is set at £700.

Historical Significance of Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant

Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant, dating back to the 16th century, is the birthplace of Bishop William Morgan. His 1588 translation of the Bible into Welsh was instrumental in preserving the Welsh language.

Morgan, originating from modest beginnings, eventually became Bishop of Llandaf and later St Asaph. He passed away in 1604 in relative poverty at his home parish of St Asaph.

Tenant Role and Application Details

National Trust Cymru seeks tenants who can act as an informal local presence to help protect the historic site.

"We are looking for someone who values the special character of the setting, and who can help us care for Tŷ Mawr Wybrnant by being a responsible and supportive neighbour," said Ceri Williams, general manager for Gogledd Orllewin Cymru (North West Wales) at the National Trust.

Applications to rent the property are open until 10 May. The farmhouse is currently vacant, and new tenants could move in within the month.
