Keenan Patten Commits to Newport County
Midfielder Keenan Patten, a former Cardiff City youth player, has agreed to remain at Newport County by signing a new short-term contract with the League Two club.
Patten, 25, who previously played for Barry Town, has made six appearances for Newport since joining in February 2025, including just one start. Although he was set to become a free agent this summer, he will now continue his career with the Exiles.
The club has not disclosed the exact duration of Patten's new contract but stated that he aims to
"reignite his career at Rodney Parade following a challenging spell with injury".
Patten suffered a broken leg in July last year, and his only senior football activity during the 2025-26 season was a loan spell back at Barry Town.
Recent Signings and Squad Updates
Patten's contract extension comes after Newport secured several new signings, including former Bromley defender Kyle Cameron, ex-Blackpool defender Dan Sassi, and forwards Christian Doidge and Yahya Bamba, both formerly of Forest Green. Additionally, Shaquille Gwengwe joined from non-league side Poole Town.
Defenders Cameron Norman and Cameron Evans have also renewed their contracts, along with midfielder Harrison Biggins.
Departures from the club include Michael Spellman, Bobby Kamwa, and captain Matt Baker. Furthermore, seven other players were not offered new contracts.
Pre-Season and Management Situation
Newport County resumed pre-season training on Monday, 29 June. The club is currently searching for a new manager, with Chris Todd serving as interim manager following the exit of Christian Fuchs.
