Backstedt Secures Elite Women's Road Race Victory

Zoe Backstedt delivered an outstanding performance to win the British elite women's road race held in Aberystwyth. The 21-year-old rider impressively caught and surpassed Josie Knight before finishing one minute and 42 seconds ahead of Knight, who secured second place representing DAS-Hutchinson. Millie Couzens narrowly edged out Pfeiffer Georgi to claim the bronze medal in Ceredigion.

Backstedt's triumph in the road race followed closely on the heels of her successful defense of the British national elite women's time trial title just three days earlier. This achievement made her the first British woman since Alice Wood in 2019 to win both the time trial and road race titles in the same year.

During the race, Josie Knight launched an early attack and established a significant lead. In response, Backstedt, along with Matilda McKibben and Jo Tindley, collaborated to close the gap. Subsequently, Backstedt initiated a solo effort to catch Knight. As Knight's pace declined, Backstedt assumed control of the race with 14 kilometers remaining and maintained her lead to secure the victory, completing an impressive double.
