Oscar Onley Out of Tour de France with Shoulder Injury
Oscar Onley has been confirmed by his team, Netcompany-Ineos, to be unable to participate in the upcoming Tour de France due to a shoulder injury.
The 23-year-old Scottish cyclist sustained the injury following a crash during stage six of the Tour Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes in France.
Initially, Onley's team reported a dislocated shoulder; however, subsequent medical examinations revealed a "significant shoulder injury."
Last year, Onley achieved a fourth-place finish in the Tour de France, matching the best result by a Scottish rider, a record previously held by Philippa York (formerly Robert Millar) since 1984.
"I'm gutted not to be able to line up for the Tour de France this year," said Onley.
"My focus is now on recovering and getting my shoulder in a good place, but I'm really motivated to try and make something out of this season."
Netcompany-Ineos released a statement indicating that Onley has started rehabilitation and is showing encouraging progress in his recovery.
The Tour de France is scheduled to begin in Barcelona on 4 July and conclude at the Champs-Elysees in Paris on 26 July.
