Beth Potter's Triathlon Journey
Beth Potter departed the Paris Olympics with bronze medals in both the individual and relay triathlon events.
"It is just the dream job for me to be honest."
Since transitioning from athletics to triathlon in 2017, the Glaswegian athlete has built an impressive career. Her achievements include two Olympic bronze medals, as well as World and European gold titles.
Continued Drive at Age 34
Now 34 years old, Potter's determination to excel remains strong.
"I love it and it just makes it easy for me to get out of bed and do it," she said regarding her demanding training routine.
"I love getting up every day and seeing where my limits are at."
Current Season and Rankings
This summer is particularly busy for Potter, who currently holds the number one position in the world rankings and is second in the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) standings.
She aims to improve her WTCS ranking during the July events in Hamburg and London. Notably, London will host elite-level triathlon racing for the first time since 2015.
Potter is focused on building upon a promising start to the year, which is especially commendable given she has been managing an injury.
Injury Challenges
Potter explained the nature of her injury:
"I tore my plantar and I had a stress response in my left foot which I did at the end of last year."
"It is still bothering me a bit now, so that has just been quite hard."
She described the season as one of careful management.
"It has just been a season to manage it and find where the limit is with it a little bit. We have been able to do that quite well but we are just going to have to take it week-by-week and race-by-race at the moment still."
Looking Ahead to 2028 Olympics
With the qualification period for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics now open, there is significant focus on upcoming competitions.
"It is still a bit too far out to be really focusing on that," Potter said.
"It's like studying for an exam too far out, I think you run out of steam a bit. I am just enjoying training, enjoying racing and not looking too far ahead.
Obviously it is a big goal of mine but I am just focusing on the present and not getting too far ahead of myself."
