Stabbing Incident at Foss High School
Six individuals sustained injuries during a stabbing incident at Foss High School in Washington state, following what police described as an "altercation." The Tacoma Fire Department confirmed that five high school students and one adult security guard were transported to the hospital on Thursday, all reported to be in stable condition.
Authorities detained the suspect, who is a student at Foss High School and was also injured during the event. Shelbie Boyd, a spokeswoman for the Tacoma Police Department, stated that the suspect was booked on five counts of first-degree assault.
Response and Investigation
Police responded to reports of an active assault at 13:35 local time (21:35 BST). The fire department attended the scene, treating and transporting six patients to the hospital. Initially, four students were reported to be in critical condition, one adult had minor injuries, and the suspect also sustained minor injuries. By 16:00 local time, authorities confirmed that all patients were in stable condition.
Boyd informed media outlets that the incident stemmed from
"some type of an altercation". She added that police arrived promptly,
"were able to locate the individual"and secured the scene
"pretty quickly".
The investigation is ongoing and expected to continue into the night. Boyd urged anyone with video footage of the incident to contact the police.
School Closure and Support
Following the incident, Foss High School will remain closed on Friday, as announced on the school's website. The school is scheduled to reopen on Monday, 4 May, with counselors available to support both staff and students.
Historical Context
In 2007, Foss High School experienced a tragic event when 17-year-old Samnang Kok was fatally shot in a hallway. The shooter, 18-year-old Douglas Chanthabouly, was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 23 years in prison.
