Sinn Féin Announces White House St Patrick's Day Boycott

Sinn Féin will not participate in St Patrick's Day events at the White House this year, according to party president Mary Lou McDonald. She confirmed the decision on social media on Monday.

"The situation on the ground in Gaza and the West Bank remains dire. Israeli attacks on Gaza have not ended. The genocide continues,"
McDonald stated.

"It is important that Sinn Féin uses its voice to demand that international law is upheld and peace and justice prevail."

This marks the second consecutive year Sinn Féin has chosen to boycott the White House's St Patrick's Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly has confirmed she will attend the events in Washington DC.

McDonald emphasized the significance of the relationship between Ireland and the United States, saying,

"Ties between the people of Ireland and the United States are very important."

She further highlighted the party's longstanding connections with the US, noting,

"As a party, we have deep and enduring bonds with that go back decades. These relationships were critical in the peace process and in the campaign for Irish re-unification.
Those relationships will continue,"
she added.
