Offset in Stable Condition After Shooting
The rapper Offset is currently in stable condition at a hospital after being shot on Monday outside a casino in Florida.
Kiari Kendrell Cephus, known professionally as Offset and formerly a member of the Atlanta hip-hop group Migos, was shot in the valet area outside the Seminole Hard Rock hotel and casino, according to a statement from Offset’s spokesperson.
The spokesperson confirmed that he is receiving treatment and is "being closely monitored."
Background and Incident Details
Offset was previously married to rapper Cardi B, with whom he shares three children.
Authorities reported that the shooting followed a physical altercation. The Seminole Police Department stated that a rapper known as Lil Tjay, whose legal name is Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested in connection with the fight that occurred prior to the shooting on Monday. Merritt was charged with disorderly conduct and operating a vehicle without a valid license, but he was not charged in relation to the shooting itself.
A request for comment was made to Merritt’s attorney. The 24-year-old rapper is a prominent figure in New York’s South Bronx music scene, recognized for his sing-rapping and pop-hip-hop style performed over drill beats.
The Seminole Police Department confirmed that two individuals have been detained during the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
“The site is secure and there is no threat to the public,”
a police statement said.
“Operations continue as normal.”
Previous Incident Involving Offset
Offset was previously shot in 2022 outside a Houston bowling alley where he and his uncle, fellow Migos member Quavo, were playing dice. The accused in that case, Patrick Clark, has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for trial in November, according to court records.
