A truck driver sustained minor injuries after a United Airlines Boeing 767 clipped his vehicle and a streetlight while approaching Newark Airport in New Jersey on Sunday.

The aircraft was operating a flight from Venice, Italy, and successfully landed without any reported injuries among the 231 passengers and crew on board.

Details of the Collision

According to the truck driver's employers, one of the plane's tires appeared to have penetrated one of the truck's windows and windscreen.

Dash camera footage from the truck captures the sound of a low-flying plane and shows the moment of impact, which caused glass to scatter extensively. The driver received treatment for glass-related injuries to his arm and hand.

Official Responses

United Airlines issued a statement indicating that it will:

conduct a rigorous flight safety investigation into the incident and our crew has been removed from service as part of this process

The statement also noted that the airline's maintenance team is assessing the damage to the aircraft.

New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill expressed relief regarding the incident, stating:

I am grateful the aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew are unharmed

Investigation

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has dispatched an investigator to the scene and has requested United Airlines to provide the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder for further examination.
