Rudy Giuliani Hospitalized in Critical Condition
Rudy Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York City and a longtime supporter of President Donald Trump, is currently in a "stable but critical condition" in hospital, according to his spokesman Ted Goodman. Goodman shared this update via a social media post on Sunday.
Following Goodman's announcement, Donald Trump took to social media to express his concern and admiration for Giuliani, stating:
"Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition."
Trump also commended Giuliani's efforts in challenging the 2020 election results on his behalf, adding:
"he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics"
Goodman did not provide additional details regarding Giuliani's condition. It is known that Giuliani sustained injuries in a car accident late last year.
Background and Recent History
Giuliani earned the nickname "America's Mayor" for his leadership of New York City in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks. In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Giuliani, along with other advisers, traveled across the United States alleging that former President Joe Biden attempted to steal the election, making numerous false claims about the election results.
Subsequently, a jury ordered Giuliani to pay $148 million (£108 million) in damages to two election workers he had accused of ballot fraud, ruling the accusations defamatory.
Goodman emphasized Giuliani's resilience in his social media message:
"Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he's fighting with that same level of strength as we speak."
He further requested support from the public:
"We do ask that you join us in prayer for America's Mayor Rudy Giuliani."
Details of Giuliani's Previous Accident
In September of the previous year, Giuliani, who is approaching his 82nd birthday this month, was involved in a car accident in New Hampshire. He was a passenger in a Ford Bronco when the vehicle was rear-ended.
At the time, his security guard reported that Giuliani suffered a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg.
