US Attorney Confirms Evidence Linking Suspect to Officer Shooting

The US government possesses evidence indicating that a federal agent was shot by the suspect during an alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, according to Jeanine Pirro, the US attorney for the District of Columbia, on Sunday.

“We now can establish that a pellet that came from the buckshot from the defendant’s Mossberg pump-action shotgun was intertwined with the fiber of the vest of the Secret Service officer,”
Pirro stated during an interview on CNN.

Details of the Incident and Suspect

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Allen, reportedly bypassed a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton hotel, the venue for the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

He then discharged a shotgun outside the ballroom doors where the US president, First Lady Melania Trump, senior cabinet members, and hundreds of journalists and guests were assembled.

Allen was charged last week with three federal offenses, including the attempted assassination of the president.

Suspect's Background and Motivations

Allen had posted on social media, drawing comparisons between Trump and Adolf Hitler, and encouraged critics of the presidency to acquire firearms. This aligns with a document Allen allegedly sent to family members prior to the attack, in which he criticized Trump administration policies, condemned security measures at the Hilton, and expressed apologies to his family for his actions.

Prosecutors’ Allegations and Legal Proceedings

Legal filings from prosecutors last week stated that Allen traveled by train from California to Washington armed with a Mossberg pump-action shotgun, a .38-caliber pistol, as well as knives and daggers, intending to carry out the attack.

The filing described Allen as being

“willing to commit a mass shooting inside a room full of the highest-ranking officials in the US government”.

Jeanine Pirro added that a grand jury is expected to convene later this week regarding the case. She has previously remarked,

“There’s no question that once we get into the grand jury there will be many, many more charges.”
