Britney Spears Accepts Plea Deal for Reckless Driving
Britney Spears will avoid jail time after agreeing to plead guilty to a lesser charge following her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.
A lawyer representing the 44-year-old appeared in court on Monday and entered a guilty plea to reckless driving involving drugs or alcohol. Spears was not required to attend the hearing.
Details of the Arrest
Spears was arrested on 4 March on a southern California highway after authorities reported she was driving her BMW "erratically at a high rate of speed."
Following the incident, Spears reportedly checked herself into a rehabilitation treatment facility. Her representatives have described the event as "completely inexcusable."
Statements from Legal Representation
"Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct," a statement from her lawyer Michael Goldstein said.
"She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney's decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI," he added.
