Canadian Astronaut Praises Ryan Gosling’s Space Film Before Artemis II Launch

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen described the new space movie starring Ryan Gosling as “extraordinary” while preparing for the Artemis II lunar fly-around mission.

On Saturday, Hansen shared that he and his crewmates had the opportunity to watch the film with their families prior to their launch. He called it “a real treat” to experience the movie as they readied themselves for their own journey into space.

Ryan Gosling, who is also Canadian, extended his best wishes to the four astronauts ahead of their scheduled liftoff on Wednesday. Both Hansen and Gosling hail from London, a city in south-western Ontario.

During a live televised event organized by the Canadian Space Agency, Hansen reflected on the connection between art and science, stating:

“Art imitates science and vice versa. I thought it was just such an inspirational example – somebody who goes out there and just gets what was done to save humanity. It’s a pretty extraordinary example that we can all follow.”

Hansen holds the distinction of being the first non-US citizen to travel to the moon.

If the mission proceeds as planned, Hansen and his crew will break the record for the farthest distance humans have traveled from Earth, surpassing 250,000 miles. The current record is held by the Apollo 13 crew, whose mission was famously depicted in the critically acclaimed 1995 film of the same name.
