Woman Appears in Court Over Fatal Dog Attack
A woman has appeared in court in connection with a dog attack that resulted in the death of her teenage cousin.
Morgan Dorsett, aged 19, from Shrewsbury, died following an attack by an XL Bully dog at a flat located in Bishopsworth, Bristol, in February 2025.
Kelcie Reed, 24, from Lawrence Weston, appeared earlier at Bristol Magistrates' Court. She faces a charge of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury resulting in death.
Reed has been released on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear next at Bristol Crown Court on 27 May.
Police Investigation and Other Arrests
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that a man in his 20s who was also arrested in relation to the incident will face no further action.
Emergency services responded to reports of a dog attack at a flat on Cobhorn Drive on 26 February last year.
A post-mortem examination determined that Morgan Dorsett died as a result of bites to her neck and face.
The dog involved, identified as an XL Bully named Prince, was sedated at the scene and subsequently euthanised, according to police statements.
Court Proceedings and Bail Conditions
During the court hearing, Reed became emotional and wept as District Judge Lynne Matthews read the charge against her.
She did not enter a plea to the charge, and the case was adjourned to Bristol Crown Court for further proceedings.
As part of her bail conditions, Reed is prohibited from owning or controlling any dog under any circumstances.
