Starmer Condemns Musk's Comments on Henry Nowak Case
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has publicly accused technology entrepreneur Elon Musk of "trying to whip up division" in relation to the murder of Henry Nowak.
Recently released footage reveals police officers handcuffing Nowak as he was dying, despite the 18-year-old repeatedly stating he could not breathe. The individual responsible for Nowak's death, Vickrum Digwa, had alleged that he was the victim of a racist attack.
Following the incident, violent protests broke out near the location of Nowak's murder in Southampton. Elon Musk, owner of the social media platform X, has posted multiple messages on the site criticizing the police's treatment of the teenager.
Starmer's Visit to York and Call for Calm
During a visit to York on Thursday, Sir Keir Starmer accused Musk of interfering in British political matters and emphasized that Nowak's grieving family had called for calm.
"We need to also assert who we are as a country, because Musk, again, has been interfering in our politics in the last few days, trying to whip up division – that is not who we are in Britain."
"In Britain, we are reasonable, tolerant people."
"When we have a terrible case like Henry's case, Henry Nowak, we react calmly, as his family have done."
