Residents Return Following Explosion in Bristol
Residents who were evacuated from a residential area in Bristol after an explosion that resulted in two fatalities and three injuries have been informed they can return to their homes.
Police responded to a domestic-related incident at a house on Sterncourt Road, Frenchay, shortly before the explosion occurred at approximately 06:30 BST on Sunday.
The explosion led to the deaths of a man and a woman. Additionally, a man, a woman, and a child were hospitalized with minor injuries. Avon and Somerset Police described the explosion as "suspicious" but have not yet confirmed its cause.
Authorities have reduced the cordon around the site, allowing "almost all" residents to return, while those still affected are receiving assistance from Bristol City Council.
Investigation Details
During a news conference on Sunday afternoon, Superintendent Matt Ebbs stated that officers had conducted inquiries at a property in Speedwell connected to the deceased man.
"Police were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident but said it remained a 'complex and sensitive investigation'."
The house where the explosion took place remains secured behind a cordon. One window has been boarded up, and a white forensics tent has been erected outside the property.
