Allegation of Rape at Faslane Naval Base
A female submariner has accused a colleague of raping her three years ago while both were serving at the Faslane Naval base on the Clyde.
She testified at the High Court in Livingston that the incident occurred after celebrating a colleague's qualification aboard the submarine and later at the mess base bar.
Accused Denies Charges
Jake Wilson, aged 38, from Gosport in Hampshire, denies the rape charge and has submitted a special defence of consent. He also denies sexually assaulting another woman on multiple occasions, including incidents aboard a nuclear submarine.
Details of the Night
The female sailor stated she was heavily intoxicated on the night in question and required assistance to leave the mess bar and return to her cabin in an accommodation block at the Gare Loch base. The group of colleagues continued to party into the early morning hours.
Having consumed port and wine, she recalled regaining consciousness alone and going to bed, where she fell asleep immediately.
Alleged Assault
She described waking up to find a man on top of her.
"Next thing I remember is someone being on top of me and someone's face. I was very confused. I felt a beard on my face so I knew it was a man. I didn't know who."
The woman said the man whispered to her,
"I bet you're glad I came back now"
as he groped and then raped her.
She recalled,
"trying really hard to push him off of me and saying 'no'. I was half asleep still and I was so drunk that I couldn't physically push him."
She identified petty officer Jake Wilson as the individual having sex with her.
Charges and Trial Status
Wilson faces charges of raping the woman on 11 May 2023 and sexually assaulting a second submariner on several occasions between 1 October 2021 and 3 November 2022 by spanking her on the buttocks and hugging her.
He has pleaded not guilty to both charges and maintains a special defence that both women consented to the sexual activity.
It has been acknowledged that Wilson was the person who had sexual contact with the women.
The trial is ongoing before temporary judge John Morris.
