Ex-Highland League Footballer Sentenced to 8 Years for Isle of Wight Rape

Former Footballer Sentenced for Rape on Isle of Wight

A former Highland League footballer has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of raping a woman on the Isle of Wight.

Stephen Rennie, aged 29 and from Inverness, received his sentence earlier this month at Portsmouth Crown Court.

He was charged with raping and assaulting a woman in the Newport area in June 2023. Rennie denied the charges but was found guilty by a jury in December of the previous year.

The investigation into the assault was conducted by detectives from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.

Rennie has a history in football, having played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle during his youth. More recently, he played in the Highland League for Strathspey Thistle, a club based in Grantown-on-Spey.
