Teen Charged Following Discovery of Body in Duffryn Park
A 14-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with the murder of a teenage girl, after a body believed to be hers was found in Duffryn Park, Blaina, Blaenau Gwent.
The body, discovered on 22 June, has not yet been formally identified, but police believe it to be that of Lily Jones, aged 14, who had been reported missing.
The boy, also 14 and from the Blaenau Gwent area, appeared at Cardiff Crown Court on Monday for a hearing lasting 21 minutes. Due to his age, his name cannot be disclosed. During the hearing, he only responded to confirm his name, date of birth, and address.
He was dressed in a short-sleeved white shirt and was accompanied by three prison custody officers and a supporting adult. As he left the dock, his mother blew him a kiss.
The boy was remanded into secure youth accommodation. A plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for 24 July, with a four-week trial set to commence on 23 November.
