Serious Injury Following Collision with Loose Cattle

An 18-year-old teenager was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after the vehicle he was traveling in collided with cows loose on a road in West Dunbartonshire.

The incident occurred around 23:50 on Sunday night near Gartocharn on the A811, close to the junction with Old School Road. The teenager was a passenger in a blue 1980s BMW 635CS when the car struck the animals.

Casualties and Police Response

Police confirmed that no other serious injuries were reported from the crash. However, two cows died at the scene, and an additional three were euthanised due to their injuries sustained in the collision.

The driver, a 22-year-old male, was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and subsequently released pending further investigations.

Ongoing Investigation and Appeal for Information

Sgt Kenny Malaney provided a statement regarding the ongoing inquiry:

"Our inquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone who has any information that could assist our investigation to contact us.
"I would ask anyone who saw the car prior to the crash, or who was driving in the area around the time and may have dash cam footage, to get in touch."

The incident highlights the dangers posed by livestock on public roads and the importance of driver vigilance in rural areas.
