Bridge Collapse Causes Major Train Disruptions in Warwickshire
A railway bridge partially collapsed after being struck by a vehicle, resulting in significant train service disruptions across Warwickshire for the remainder of the day.
The incident occurred on Marston Lane in Whitestone, Nuneaton, leading to the closure of the road between Forders Lane and Nuneaton Road, as reported by travel monitoring company Inrix.
Impact on Train Services
Network Rail issued a statement on X regarding the situation:
"Due to a vehicle striking a bridge between Rugby and Nuneaton, services may be delayed or cancelled,"
"Our teams are working to assess the damage to the bridge and keep passengers moving,"
They further explained that trains might be cancelled, delayed by up to an hour, or diverted via Birmingham. Services along the affected route may start or terminate from either side of Nuneaton or Rugby and may not complete their full journeys.
Passengers were advised to consult online journey planners before travelling to stay informed about service changes.
Emergency Response and Safety Assessment
Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident after receiving reports around 15:30 BST that a lorry had collided with a railway bridge on Marston Lane.
There were no reported injuries, and no other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Fire crews remained at the scene while structural engineers conducted an assessment of the bridge's condition to determine the extent of the damage.
