Cross Border Rail Services Disrupted

There is significant disruption to cross border rail services between Belfast and Dublin caused by damage to overhead lines in the Republic of Ireland. Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) has implemented a replacement bus service for the Belfast Enterprise Service between Dublin's Connolly Station and Drogheda during the morning peak period, which may continue until lunchtime.

Approximately 15,000 to 20,000 commuters are expected to be affected by this disruption across the Republic of Ireland, according to Iarnród Éireann.

Cause and Repair Efforts

The disruption stems from damage to the lines in the Raheny area of Dublin, which occurred at around 20:30 local time on Tuesday.

"Crews mobilised after 01:00hrs and repair works are ongoing. The cause of the damage is also being determined," said an Iarnród Éireann spokesperson.
"Iarnród Éireann apologises for the inconvenience caused."

Advice to Commuters and Additional Service Interruptions

Barry Kenny from Iarnród Éireann, speaking on RTE's Morning Ireland programme, advised:

"People who can make alternative arrangements would be advised to do."

Currently, there are no DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) services operating from Malahide and Howth to Clontarf Road, nor northern commuter services from Howth Junction to Connolly.
