Rail Delays Impact Cheltenham Festival Attendees

Thousands of racegoers attending the Cheltenham Festival are experiencing significant train delays due to a trespasser on the railway line in Gloucestershire.

Services passing through Gloucester have been either cancelled or delayed following the detention of a trespasser in the vicinity.

Although all lines have now reopened, disruptions are anticipated to continue until 13:00 GMT.

Incident Details and Response

The British Transport Police reported that officers were alerted at approximately 09:30 and subsequently detained a man who is currently undergoing assessment by paramedics.

Multiple routes have been affected by the incident, including services between Gloucester and Birmingham, Cardiff and Nottingham, Bristol and Worcester, as well as London Paddington and Cheltenham Spa.

Additional disruptions are impacting services from Cardiff to Cheltenham Spa and between Weymouth, Warminster, Westbury, and Gloucester.

Network Rail Statement

"As service recovers, trains running through Gloucester may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised."
