Van Gerwen Clinches Nordic Darts Masters Title in Denmark
Michael van Gerwen secured the Nordic Darts Masters championship in Copenhagen by narrowly defeating Luke Humphries 8-7 in the final leg. Earlier this year, Van Gerwen also won the Bahrain title in January.
As the top seed of the tournament, Van Gerwen advanced through the quarter-finals with a 6-5 victory over Viktor Tingstrom and then defeated Jonny Clayton 7-4 in the semi-finals to reach the final match.
Luke Humphries reached the final after overcoming the world champion in the semi-finals, avenging his recent Premier League final loss to Luke Littler. Humphries won 7-5 with an impressive match average of 105. Notably, his performance included a 132 finish where he hit the bullseye twice before successfully landing double 16.
The final was a high-caliber contest between the Dutchman and the Englishman. Van Gerwen claimed his 18th PDC World Series title and his second title of 2026 by winning 8-7. Humphries, ranked world number two, initially took a 3-1 lead before Van Gerwen, currently fourth in the world rankings, responded with four consecutive legs to seize the lead.
The two former world champions exchanged breaks of throw as the match progressed to a deciding leg. In the final leg, Humphries narrowly missed a bullseye that would have secured his victory. Van Gerwen then completed the match by finishing 72 on double top, becoming the first player to win the Nordic Masters twice since its inception in 2021.
"I think Luke let me get away with it because he had a chance to be 4-1 up," said Van Gerwen. "Then you try to take advantage and luckily I did.
It is always nice to have a win behind your name again. That gives confidence and a good feeling because my performances early on in the rounds were not good.
But more importantly it was how I bounced back to keep grafting. That makes me win today and I am really pleased with that."
The World Series of Darts will continue with the US Darts Masters, scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York from 25 to 27 June.
