Luke Robinson's Tenure Ends After 18 Months at Huddersfield Giants
Huddersfield Giants have relieved head coach Luke Robinson of his duties following a disappointing start to the 2026 Super League season.
The Giants have suffered defeats in all five of their opening matches, leaving them at the bottom of the league table with zero points.
Robinson commenced his second tenure as Huddersfield Giants' head coach in September 2024, succeeding Ian Watson. His initial period was challenging, with the team losing the first nine games under his leadership before securing a narrow victory against Hull FC at the Magic Weekend in May of the previous year.
Despite financial constraints, Robinson managed to steer the club to a 10th place finish in the final Super League standings last season.
This year, the 41-year-old coach has contended with a significant injury crisis, which the club described as "unprecedented" earlier this month. Key players, including star full-back George Flanagan Jr, have been sidelined, with a total of 16 first-team members unavailable.
Following the latest defeat to Bradford Bulls on Friday night, Robinson appeared visibly dejected, marking his final game in charge of the team.
Previously, Robinson had a brief stint as interim head coach during the conclusion of the Covid-affected 2020 season after Simon Woolford's resignation, overseeing the final eight matches of that campaign.
Huddersfield Giants' director of rugby, Andy Kelly, will assume responsibility for the first team until a new head coach is appointed.
The Giants are scheduled to continue their Super League campaign with an away match against league leaders Wigan on Saturday at 15:00 GMT.
