GB's Flagbearers Announced for Winter Paralympics

Great Britain will be represented by the skiing duo Menna Fitzpatrick and Scott Meenagh as flagbearers during the opening ceremony of the Winter Paralympics on Friday.

Welsh Para-Alpine skier Menna Fitzpatrick holds the distinction of being Britain's most decorated Winter Paralympian, having secured six medals throughout her career.

At 27 years old, Fitzpatrick is preparing to compete in the Paralympics less than three months after suffering a serious knee injury.

Scottish Para-Nordic skier Scott Meenagh will be competing in his third Winter Paralympics, having previously participated in the 2018 and 2022 Games.

Meenagh, aged 36, made history in 2023 by becoming the first British athlete to win a medal at the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships, earning silver in the 12.5km individual biathlon event.

Event Details and Historical Context

The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Verona Arena, a Roman amphitheatre located in the historic center of Verona.

The Games will continue until 15 March and will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the inaugural Winter Paralympics.
