Luke Littler Triumphs Over Jonny Clayton in Cardiff Final
Luke Littler delivered an impressive performance by hitting 170 checkouts in consecutive games during the Premier League final at Utilita Arena in Cardiff. Littler defeated Premier League leader Jonny Clayton 6-4 in a high-quality match.
Littler took an early lead by breaking Clayton in the opening leg. However, Clayton responded immediately with a break of his own after Littler missed a 68 checkout with three darts remaining.
Clayton energized the home crowd with a bullseye finish, securing his first lead of the final. Nevertheless, Littler demonstrated his championship pedigree by hitting the 'Big Fish' 170 checkout, replicating the finish that secured his semi-final victory against Gerwyn Price.
Both players maintained their throws, reaching the halfway point of the final tied at three legs each.
Littler nearly thrilled the crowd with a potential nine-dart finish but narrowly missed double 15. Clayton capitalized by checking out 41 in an exceptional leg.
The 19-year-old Littler leveled the match with a hold of throw and then secured a second break, bringing him within one leg of victory.
He clinched his first Premier League night win of the 2026 campaign in the following leg, finishing on a 52 checkout with his last dart and moving into the top four of the standings.
"It took me a little while to get settled in to this tournament, as it did in the first year," Littler told Sky Sports. "I've done really well tonight and I'm proud of myself. The table looks good now, it wasn't looking good when I was in seventh. It just goes to show that tonight I had to focus on myself."
Clayton's second final appearance of the season keeps him atop the Premier League table as he continues to excel in his return to the competition.
Premier League Darts: Additional Match Highlights and Analysis
Luke Humphries secured his first Premier League win in Cardiff by defeating Michael van Gerwen 6-1.
Clayton started strong against Gian van Veen, building a 4-1 lead. Van Veen fought back to 5-4, but a missed double-double finish allowed Clayton to take the match with his last dart, advancing to the semi-finals.
The home crowd's hope for an all-Welsh final ended in the semi-finals when Gerwyn Price defeated last week's winner Stephen Bunting in a deciding leg. The match featured several missed doubles from both players, but Price overcame a 3-1 deficit to set up a semi-final against Littler.
Littler's average of 96.2 was below Josh Rock's 103.72, but Rock's ongoing struggles with doubles extended his winless Premier League run after a 6-4 loss.
Clayton overcame two missed doubles to beat 2024 PDC World Champion Humphries 6-4 in the semi-final, partially fulfilling the Welsh crowd's dream of an all-Welsh final.
Littler began the semi-final with five consecutive treble 20s, quickly taking a 2-0 lead with an average just under 120. Price appeared frustrated, frequently puffing his cheeks after errant darts, and fell behind 5-3 due to Littler's clinical finishing.
Littler concluded the semi-final with a 170 'Big Fish' checkout, handing Price his first defeat of the night.
Repeating his 'Big Fish' checkout in the final, Littler spoiled the home fans' celebrations in Cardiff to claim his first Premier League victory of the season.
Jonny Clayton beat Gian van Veen in the final of night three in Glasgow.
