Gilgeous-Alexander Approaches Historic NBA Scoring Record
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, last season's NBA Most Valuable Player, scored 27 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 104-97 victory over the Golden State Warriors at home.
He has now scored at least 20 points in 125 consecutive games, a streak that began on 1 November 2024. This puts him just two games shy of breaking Wilt Chamberlain's long-standing record of 126 consecutive games with 20 or more points, set between October 1961 and January 1963.
The Thunder are scheduled to host the Denver Nuggets on Monday and the Boston Celtics on Thursday.
This win marked the Thunder's fifth consecutive victory and made them the first team to reach 50 wins this season. They currently lead the Western Conference standings.
Gilgeous-Alexander said: "If we were the best team last year, all year, we win a championship, and we get better, we should put ourselves in great position to repeat.
"This year's had a little bit more ups and downs for us, but I think we've done a pretty good job keeping that front of mind."
The Warriors, who were again without injured star Stephen Curry, mounted a late rally with seven unanswered points to narrow the Thunder's lead to 99-97. However, Gilgeous-Alexander secured the win with a three-pointer in the final minute.
