Sheaf Injury Threatens Wrexham's Promotion Campaign

Midfielder Ben Sheaf, who joined Wrexham from Coventry City in July 2025, may miss the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson confirmed that Sheaf is scheduled to see a specialist in London following damage to the medial ligaments in his knee sustained during the club's 5-3 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The 28-year-old, a pivotal player for the Red Dragons since his deadline-day transfer last summer, was substituted 16 minutes into the match against Ipswich, a win that elevated Wrexham back into the play-off positions.

"Ben's not looking good, and it's a real blow for us," said Parkinson.
"He sees a specialist tonight (Monday) in London, but the initial prognosis is it's a 10-week injury.
"He's really unlucky, Ben, because it was just a block tackle which opened up his knee, but things happen like that in football.
"Ben will get the best possible treatment, and come back strong, but from our point of view it's now about opportunities for other players."

Impact on Squad and Upcoming Fixtures

A 10-week absence would sideline Sheaf until the final game of the season on 2 May, leaving only a slim chance of his return before the campaign concludes.

This injury compounds Wrexham's midfield challenges, as experienced midfielder Matty James remains sidelined with a fractured toe sustained during the 2-0 defeat to Millwall on 7 February.

Defender Zak Vyner, who joined from Bristol City in January, made his debut off the bench in midfield against Ipswich and may provide cover in the midfield area.

"Predominantly Zak's a defender, but he can play in there," Parkinson explained.
"Matty is making slower progress than we initially anticipated, but it's all about utilising the squad."

Wrexham will aim to consolidate their position in the top six when they host Portsmouth at the Stok Cae Ras on Tuesday at 19:45 GMT.

Currently, Wrexham hold a two-point advantage over seventh-placed Birmingham City as they prepare to face a Portsmouth side that has won consecutive away matches, moving six points clear of the relegation zone.
