Phil Parkinson Urges Patience in Transfer Market

Phil Parkinson, who began his managerial career at Colchester United in 2003, is currently managing Wrexham and has emphasized the importance of patience during what he describes as a "slow" summer transfer window.

The Championship club, preparing for a tour in the United States later this month with three pre-season matches scheduled, has yet to secure any new signings.

Parkinson indicated that additional player departures are expected at Stok Cae Ras following the recent exit of striker Paul Mullin.

"As ever it's patience, making sure we can hold our nerve to get the right players in who we feel can make a difference," Parkinson told Wales.

Upcoming Pre-Season Matches in the United States

Wrexham is set to face Leeds United in Tampa on Sunday, 26 July, followed by matches against Liverpool in New York and Sunderland in Pennsylvania.

"I'd love to be able to be taking a couple of new signings on that tour. If it happens, great, if it doesn't then we'll work like we did when we were in Australia [last year].
"All the time over there we were working on the recruitment and we didn't let it impact on formulating the squad we wanted."

Player Departures and Loan Moves

Fan favourite Paul Mullin departed the club by mutual consent, and midfielder Tom O'Connor completed a permanent transfer to Peterborough United.

"Of course, along that journey players are going to have to go because of numbers which we've worked on with Paul going," Parkinson added.

Additionally, Mo Faal has signed for Port Vale on a one-year loan, and Parkinson mentioned that other players are expected to leave as well.

"Mo Faal has signed for Port Vale on a year's loan and one or two others need to go out as well."

Parkinson Reflects on His Time at Wrexham

Parkinson has spent five years at Wrexham, a period marked by significant achievements, but acknowledges there is still work to be done.

Championship clubs are now operating under the new financial framework of Squad Cost Rules (SCR), which has replaced the previous profit and sustainability regulations. Parkinson cited this change, along with the recent World Cup, as factors contributing to the slow pace of transfer activity.

"We've got to operate within the rules and we're working on ways to do that to give us the best squad going forward," said Parkinson.
"But equally we've got a good group of players in the building. We've got to remember that we've got a squad which came close last year.
"We know, as everybody's saying, the division is going to be harder. You look at the teams that have come down and the teams which are going to improve in the division.
"We understand that and we're not kind of resting on our laurels. We'll naturally just evolve from last year.
"We know we've got to work on the squad, and we will do, but it's going to take a bit of time."
