McLeish Retained as Head Coach Following Premiership Survival

St Mirren have decided to retain Craig McLeish as their head coach after successfully maintaining their Scottish Premiership status through the play-offs.

The 36-year-old took over on an interim basis in March after the departure of Stephen Robinson, the League Cup-winning manager, who left to join Aberdeen.

During his tenure, McLeish secured three wins in nine league matches but was unable to prevent St Mirren from finishing second bottom of the table, as Kilmarnock improved their form following the league split.

In the play-off final, St Mirren triumphed 2-1 against Partick Thistle, with Marcus Fraser scoring the decisive goal in the second leg held in Paisley.

McLeish has now signed a three-year contract, with Stuart Taylor, aged 51, expected to join as his assistant.

St Mirren returned to the Scottish Premiership in 2018 and had achieved three consecutive top-six finishes before the current season.

Robinson had been in charge since February 2022 and led the club to their first trophy in 12 years by defeating Celtic in the League Cup final last December.

He departed for Pittodrie while St Mirren were positioned 10th in the league table, three points ahead of Kilmarnock.
