Michael McArdle Appointed Northern Ireland Women's Manager

Michael McArdle, the Scottish Football Association's head of elite women's football and former interim head coach of Scotland, has been appointed as the manager of the Northern Ireland women's national team.

McArdle succeeds Tanya Oxtoby as the permanent manager, replacing interim coach Kris Lindsay, who oversaw Northern Ireland's two initial defeats against Switzerland and Turkey in their recent World Cup qualifying matches.

Previously an assistant at Ayr United, McArdle led Scotland through their first four Nations League A matches last year, all of which ended in defeat, during the period when the Scottish FA was searching for a permanent head coach. This search culminated in the appointment of Melissa Andreatta from Australia.

After Andreatta's appointment, McArdle resumed his senior role within the Scottish FA. His responsibilities have included managing various youth squads, most recently the Scotland Under-23 team, as well as overseeing talent identification, development, and establishing pathways to the national team.
