Valverde Taken to Hospital Following Incident with Tchouameni
Real Madrid midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni may face repercussions after an alleged altercation that resulted in Valverde being hospitalized with a head injury. This incident occurred just three days before a crucial La Liga match against Barcelona.
The club issued a statement confirming disciplinary proceedings had been initiated against both players, stating they were "following the incidents that occurred this morning during the first team's training session." Real Madrid also confirmed that Valverde was diagnosed with cranioencephalic trauma, a form of concussion.
"Valverde is at home in good condition and will have to remain at rest for 10 to 14 days, as indicated by the medical protocols for this diagnosis," the club added.
According to sources cited by , Valverde was rendered unconscious during the altercation, while ESPN reported that he required stitches. The tension reportedly began during Wednesday's training session, with an argument continuing into the dressing room but not escalating further at that time.
The alleged physical confrontation took place on Thursday after training at Real Madrid's Valdebebas facility, where Tchouameni confronted Valverde, and their verbal dispute turned physical.
An emergency meeting was convened on Thursday evening involving Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, his staff, head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, and club captain Dani Carvajal.
"The club will provide updates on the resolutions of both proceedings once the corresponding internal procedures have been completed," Real Madrid stated.
has reached out to the club and the players' agents for comment.
Real Madrid are set to face Barcelona in El Clasico at the Nou Camp on Sunday. A result other than a win for Real would grant Barcelona a second consecutive La Liga title with three matches remaining.
Spanish media have described the incident as "the most serious ever experienced in Valdebebas" according to several club staff members. Reports indicate that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances, and disciplinary measures may be imposed on both players.
A Divided Dressing Room?
The reported tension between Valverde and Tchouameni follows claims of other disputes within the Real Madrid squad.
Earlier in the week, Spanish player Alvaro Carreras addressed rumors of a confrontation with German teammate Antonio Rudiger. Carreras did not specify the player involved but posted a statement on Instagram:
"In recent days, certain insinuations and comments about me have emerged that do not correspond to reality.
My commitment to this club and to the coaches I have had has been complete from day one, and it will continue to be so. Since I returned [after spells at Manchester United and Benfica], I have always worked with the utmost professionalism, respect and dedication. I have fought very hard to fulfil my dream of returning home.
Regarding the incident with a colleague, it is a specific matter of no relevance that has already been settled. My relationship with the whole team is very good."
Supporters have also expressed dissatisfaction with star striker Kylian Mbappe this week after he spent recovery time in Sardinia with his girlfriend.
