Matos Focuses on Wrexham Ahead of Welsh Derby
Victory at Portsmouth marked Swansea City's third away win since Vitor Matos assumed managerial duties in November.
Despite growing speculation about the Championship play-offs, Matos has emphasized that his attention remains fixed on the upcoming match against Wrexham at Stok Cae Ras on Friday.
Swansea closed the gap to Wrexham to five points in the Championship standings following their 2-1 win at Portsmouth. Wrexham, managed by Phil Parkinson, remain in sixth place after a home defeat to Hull City on Tuesday. A win for Swansea in north Wales would bring them within two points of the play-off positions.
However, Matos has consistently downplayed questions regarding Swansea's chances of reaching the top six this season.
"What we need to think is what we can do to win the game," the Portuguese manager stated. "It will be a really hard game as we all know - quite emotional as well. First we need to see what we can improve from today [at Portsmouth] to have more consistency and [then] analyse Wrexham. It's more about recovery, mindset and going there to compete."
Swansea's Resilience Secures Vital Away Win
First-half goals from Ethan Galbraith and Josh Key secured Swansea's victory at Fratton Park. Although the Swans missed opportunities to extend their lead, Jacob Brown reduced the deficit for Portsmouth in the second half. Swansea maintained their composure to claim only their fifth away win of the season.
Matos reflected on the team's performances away from home this season, noting improvements in mentality and organisation contributed to the result.
"I think we had good performances away from home, but we didn't get the points from the performances," Matos explained. "We needed to improve a few things to keep winning games away. That's what we have been trying. [At Portsmouth] we got a little bit of both. The mentality was there, the resilience was there, the organisation was there, then of course the performance as well. I am really happy for the team club, for the club and for the fans."
