Frimpong Omitted from Netherlands World Cup Team

Jeremie Frimpong, who transferred to Liverpool last summer for £29.5 million, has been excluded from the Netherlands' squad for the upcoming World Cup.

The squad, selected by Ronald Koeman, features a strong Premier League presence, with 15 of the 26 players currently playing in England's top division. Despite this, Frimpong will not join his Liverpool teammates Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo in the tournament.

Notably, Arsenal's Jurrien Timber has been included despite an ankle injury that has sidelined him since March, highlighting the defensive emphasis on Premier League players. Six of the seven defenders chosen play for Premier League clubs.

Among the defenders, Tottenham's Micky van de Ven and Chelsea's Jorrel Hato have been selected, while Inter Milan's Denzel Dumfries is the only defender from outside the Premier League.

Brighton & Hove Albion contribute three players: Bart Verbruggen, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Mats Wieffer. Manchester City also have two representatives in Nathan Ake and Tijjani Reijnders.

Goalkeeper Robin Roefs from Sunderland, who has yet to make his international debut, has been called up alongside Brighton's Bart Verbruggen and Bayer Leverkusen's Mark Flekken.

The forward line includes Sunderland's Brian Brobbey, Bournemouth's Justin Kluivert, and West Ham United's Crysencio Summerville, maintaining a strong Premier League contingent.

Ryan Gravenberch of Liverpool is set to participate in his first World Cup this summer.
