Frank Lampard Commits to Coventry City Until 2029
Frank Lampard, who scored 177 Premier League goals from midfield before transitioning into management, has signed a new contract with Coventry City extending his tenure until 2029.
The 48-year-old manager guided the Sky Blues to the Championship title last season, securing promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years.
His previous contract was set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. Lampard had attracted interest from other clubs during the summer, including Fulham, but has now reaffirmed his commitment to Coventry as they prepare for their return to the top flight.
The Sky Blues will begin their Premier League campaign against reigning champions Arsenal on Friday, 21 August.
"After the incredible work of everybody to get promoted and win the Championship, it was important to enjoy the moment, and we certainly did as a city.
Our job then as staff, and for the players of course, is to firstly recharge but also focus on what we want to do and what we need to for next season. There's a lot of work to do on and off the pitch as a football club, so those things have been ongoing.
I'm looking forward to getting back with the players, to see them all and get ready for the new season."
Managerial Journey and Recent Success
Lampard took over as Coventry City manager in November 2024, replacing Mark Robins when the team was 17th in the Championship and just two points above the relegation zone.
Under his leadership, Coventry won 16 of the remaining 29 Championship matches that season, finishing fifth and qualifying for the play-offs. They were narrowly defeated 3-2 on aggregate by Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals.
In the following season, Lampard led Coventry to the Championship title by winning 28 matches—the highest number of league wins in a single season in the club's history—thus ending a 25-year absence from top-flight football.
Before joining Coventry, Lampard began his managerial career at Derby County and had subsequent spells managing Chelsea twice and Everton.
