Weir 'More Determined Than Ever' to Make World Cup
Caroline Weir is poised to earn her 115th cap for Scotland in the upcoming match against Luxembourg.
The Real Madrid midfielder has been appointed as the permanent captain of the Scotland women's national team by head coach Melissa Andreatta. Weir had previously served as stand-in captain during Rachel Corsie's time as skipper but now succeeds the retired Corsie in a permanent role.
Weir was part of the Scotland squad that competed in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup held in France.
Andreatta will lead Scotland in her first World Cup qualifier as head coach during Tuesday's away fixture against Luxembourg. The match will be broadcast live on BBC Scotland, , and the website and app. Scotland will host Luxembourg on 7 March for the return fixture.
Looking ahead, Weir emphasized her focus on the 2027 World Cup finals in Brazil, stating that is her current target.
"As soon it was New Year, I was thinking about my goals for this year and qualifying for the World Cup is top of the list so, yeah, this is where it begins," said Weir, 30.
"There's lots of things I want to achieve as captain and I guess it starts from this camp.
"[Leading Scotland at the World Cup] would be everything for me. There's no higher honour.
"More determined than ever because I'm getting older and you don't know how many more opportunities you're going to have."
Weir scored in both of Scotland's October friendlies, a victory over Morocco and a defeat against Switzerland. Since then, Scotland have drawn with Ukraine and secured a win against China in additional friendly matches.
"For Mel to choose me as her captain, I'm hugely honoured, humbled, excited because it's such an exciting time for the squad," Weir said.
"It was quite an emotional moment and one that I'm proud of, my family are very proud of. It starts from here.
"We love when our national teams do well in anything and we want to be part of that."
