Alisson Sidelined for Champions League First Leg

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson has been ruled out of the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie against Galatasaray due to injury. However, he may be available for Liverpool's Premier League match against Tottenham at Anfield this weekend.

The 33-year-old Brazilian suffered the injury during a training session shortly before Liverpool's departure to Turkey for Tuesday's match at RAMS Park. Liverpool manager Arne Slot provided an update during a news conference on Monday, explaining that Alisson experienced minor discomfort and, after consulting with the club's medical team, did not travel with the squad to Istanbul. The club has not released specific details regarding the nature of the injury.

"Ali, of course, was in the session as many people could see, but unfortunately he felt something towards the end of the session," Slot said.
"People looked at it and we decided, and he decided together, that it wasn't good enough to play tomorrow. And then it's of no use travelling."

Prospects for Return Against Tottenham

When asked about Alisson's availability for the upcoming Premier League fixture against Tottenham on Sunday, Slot expressed optimism.

"There's definitely a chance, yes, because we don't expect it to be a big thing," added the Dutchman.
"But it was too much to be available for tomorrow."

Impact on Liverpool Squad and Goalkeeping Duties

Alisson, who joined Liverpool from Italian club Roma in July 2018, has missed nine matches this season due to injury. His absence for the Galatasaray match means that Giorgi Mamardashvili is expected to make his first appearance for Liverpool since the FA Cup victory over Barnsley on 12 January. The Georgian goalkeeper has appeared 11 times for Liverpool across all competitions this season.

In addition to Alisson's injury, Liverpool will also be without Italian forward Federico Chiesa, who did not travel to Istanbul due to illness.
