Lauren Parfitt's Half-Century Guides Glamorgan to Victory
In the Women's Vitality Blast League Two match held in Cardiff, Glamorgan Women secured an eight-wicket win against Worcestershire, following their earlier success in the league. Glamorgan posted 104-2 in 12.3 overs, while Worcestershire managed 103-6 in their full 20 overs. Key contributions included Lauren Parfitt's commanding 72 runs off 40 balls for Glamorgan, and notable scores from Worcestershire's Amy Griffiths (36), Clare Boycott (12), and Meg Bishop (20).
Match Overview and Team Changes
Having already clinched the top spot in Women's T20 Blast League Two, Glamorgan Women continued their winning streak by defeating a Worcestershire side that struggled to build momentum. After winning the toss, Glamorgan elected to field first and successfully restricted Worcestershire to 103-7, primarily limiting their scoring to singles. Despite an early wobble in their chase, Glamorgan overcame the target with ease, largely due to captain Lauren Parfitt's outstanding innings.
Glamorgan made three changes to their lineup, bringing in Daisy Mullan, Charlotte Lambert, and Poppy Walker in place of Bea Ellis, Nicole Reid, and Eve Jackson, the latter having taken four wickets in the previous match against Middlesex. Worcestershire, positioned fifth in the league, made one alteration by replacing wicketkeeper Liv Gough with Dutch international Sanya Khurana, while Gwennan Davies assumed wicketkeeping duties.
Worcestershire Innings
Early in the innings, Khurana survived a chance when Katie Cobb dropped a catch off Gemma Porter. However, Glamorgan quickly tightened their grip on the Rapids. Khurana and Amy Griffiths were the only players to hit boundaries in the first five overs as Worcestershire struggled to accelerate their scoring.
Porter claimed her 15th wicket of the season in the sixth over, dismissing Khurana for 14 runs from 18 balls. Madison Windeatt added six runs before Bethan Gammon executed a run out in the seventh over. The wickets continued to fall as Davies, fresh from an eight-boundary innings against Sussex, was caught by Cobb for a duck. Spinner Sara Phillips then removed Ebony Jade-Tweats, who scored one run from three deliveries.
Griffiths was the only batter to offer significant resistance, scoring 36 runs from 41 balls before being stumped by Megan Sturge off Poppy Walker. Lucy Harris was also run out by Gammon after scoring two runs from 13 balls. A late partnership of 32 runs from 32 balls between captain Clare Boycott and Meg Bishop helped Worcestershire recover to a total of 103-7, setting Glamorgan a target of 104 runs to win.
Glamorgan's Chase
Glamorgan's innings began on a shaky note as Daisy Jeanes, fresh from an 86-run performance against Middlesex, was stumped by Neath-born Davies shortly after hitting a boundary. Megan Sturge was dismissed soon after, trapped LBW by Griffiths, leaving Glamorgan at 20-2 after three overs.
Captain Lauren Parfitt quickly settled the innings, striking three boundaries, including two in succession, in the fifth over. She then hit the first six of the match in the seventh over, taking Glamorgan past the 50-run mark and halfway to their target.
With Bethan Gammon providing steady support, Parfitt continued to dominate the bowling attack. She reached her half-century with her eighth boundary and began the 12th over with three consecutive fours. Parfitt added an 11th boundary with an inventive lofted shot behind the wicket as Glamorgan moved to 98-2, needing just six more runs to win.
Victory was secured in the 13th over when Gammon's single sealed an eight-wicket win, marking Glamorgan's seventh victory in eight matches.
