Leask and Munsey Shine as Scotland Defeat Italy
Michael Leask delivered an explosive performance, scoring 22 runs off the final five balls of Scotland's innings before taking four wickets during Italy's chase in the T20 World Cup Group C match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
Scotland posted a total of 207-4 in their 20 overs, with George Munsey contributing a significant 84 runs off 54 balls and McMullen remaining unbeaten on 41 off 18 deliveries. Munsey, who was dropped on 40, played a pivotal role in setting a challenging target for the World Cup debutants.
Leask's late surge with the bat helped Scotland accelerate their innings, and he carried that momentum into his bowling spell. He dismissed Italian opener Justin Mosca with the very first ball he bowled, aided by Munsey's excellent diving catch to his right.
Despite a resilient 73-run partnership between Italian brothers Ben and Harry Manenti, Italy struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Following the dismissal of the Manenti brothers, Scotland quickly dismantled the remaining batting lineup, securing a comfortable victory.
Italy's captain Wayne Madsen was unable to bat due to a dislocated shoulder sustained while fielding. Italy were bowled out for 134 runs in 16.4 overs.
Leask finished with impressive bowling figures of 4-17, while Mark Watt contributed with 2-24. Munsey also made a notable impact in the field by taking four catches.
With this win, Scotland now have one victory from two matches and will face England on Saturday. Italy will play against Nepal on Thursday.
