Ireland achieved their inaugural victory at a T20 World Cup by defeating the West Indies, who were considered strong contenders for the semi-finals, in a match held at Bristol.

Following an effective all-round bowling effort that limited the West Indies to 128-7, Orla Prendergast spearheaded Ireland's successful chase with an impressive 63 runs off 44 balls.

Prendergast was dismissed in the 16th over when Ireland still required 21 runs from 28 balls. However, Rebecca Stokell maintained composure and contributed an unbeaten 16 runs, guiding Ireland to victory with 11 balls remaining.

Prior to this match, Ireland had lost all 21 of their games across five previous T20 World Cup tournaments, while the West Indies had won the championship in 2016.
