Glamorgan Sign Neesham to Offset Farooqi's Departure

Glamorgan have secured the services of experienced New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham following the recall of paceman Fazalhaq Farooqi by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), which rules Farooqi out for the remainder of their T20 Blast campaign.

Neesham, aged 35, brings a wealth of experience, having played 105 T20 internationals. Notably, he featured in the recent T20 World Cup final against India, where he took three wickets.

His domestic career includes stints with Welsh Fire in The Hundred, as well as Derbyshire, Durham, Essex, and Kent. Additionally, Neesham has extensive franchise experience globally, including participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Australia's Big Bash League, and various leagues in South Africa, Pakistan, and the West Indies.

Farooqi, 25, who signed with Glamorgan in March, appeared in the opening two matches of this season's T20 Blast before his recall.

Glamorgan's director of cricket, Mark Wallace, commented on the signing:

"He's a genuine three-dimensional cricketer with the ability to change a game in a matter of balls, and his experience in high-pressure environments will be invaluable for our group."
"He is a fantastic addition to our Blast squad."

Glamorgan Respect Afghanistan Call-Up of Farooqi

During his brief stint, Farooqi took four wickets in Glamorgan's defeat against Northamptonshire Steelbacks and added two more wickets in the loss to Gloucestershire.

Glamorgan have expressed full respect for the ACB's decision to recall Farooqi and have extended their best wishes to him for his national team commitments.

Farooqi was one of three overseas players in Glamorgan's T20 Blast squad, alongside Australian all-rounder Nathan McAndrew and South African batter Colin Ingram. Only two overseas players are permitted to play in any match.

McAndrew is expected to make his debut when Glamorgan host Somerset on Friday at 18:30 BST.
