Evan Mosey Re-Signs with Cardiff Devils
Cardiff Devils have secured the services of Evan Mosey for a sixth consecutive season. The 37-year-old player, known for his versatility, contributed 30 points in 65 games during the 2025-26 season, primarily fulfilling a defensive role.
Mosey demonstrated his adaptability by effectively playing both defence and forward positions, recording two goals and 28 assists last season. He formed a strong defensive partnership with Gleason Fournier, with the duo playing together throughout the entire season.
"It's great to have Evan back. His experience and versatility on both defence and as a forward are very rare. He's naturally comfortable in both and very effective in either role. He brings good energy every day on and off the ice, and I'm very happy he's back for another year." – Head coach Paul Thompson
Recent Signings and Player Highlights
In addition to Mosey's re-signing, the Devils have added defenceman Nick Welsh from Manchester Storm to their roster. Fellow Canadian blueliner Jimmy Oligny, a member of last season's squad, has also extended his contract, becoming the first player to commit to another season at Vindico Arena.
Both Oligny and Welsh earned selections to the 2025-26 Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) 2nd All-Star Team, an honor voted on by coaches and general managers.
Nick Welsh, originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, tallied 12 points and 28 assists over 54 games for Manchester Storm last season. The 29-year-old has previous experience playing in Germany’s top-tier DEL with Nurnberg and Augsburger, as well as stints in Austria with HC Innsbruck and Finland’s KooKoo.
Jimmy Oligny, aged 33, agreed to a two-year contract extension with Cardiff after contributing seven goals and 25 assists during his debut season, which culminated in the Devils winning the Play-Offs trophy.
Nick Welsh played for junior clubs Moncton Wildcats and Shawinigan Cataractes in his native Canada

Team Outlook and Coaching
While many EIHL players typically sign single-season contracts, the majority of Cardiff Devils’ Play-Offs-winning squad are expected to return for the upcoming season, which begins in September. Following a partially successful first season as head coach, Paul Thompson faces significant interest regarding potential roster changes aimed at securing the club’s first regular season league title since 2018.

EIHL Roster Regulations
EIHL teams are allowed to use up to 25 players during a season, excluding injured reserve replacements and 'two-way players'. There is no limit on the number of 'two-way players' a club may register, provided these players are homegrown, under 25 years old, and primarily contracted to an English Ice Hockey (EIH) or Scottish Ice Hockey (SIH) team competing in a league below the EIHL.
On game days, teams can dress a maximum of 20 players, consisting of 18 skaters and 2 goaltenders, with no more than 15 non-homegrown players permitted. Additionally, all teams must have at least one British goaltender registered on their overall roster.
