Trump Announces Ceasefire on Social Media

Donald Trump has declared via social media that a three-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine will take place from 9 to 11 May.

The former US president stated that the ceasefire would involve a suspension of all “kinetic activity” as well as a prisoner exchange involving 1,000 prisoners from each nation.

He added that there was ongoing progress in negotiations aimed at ending the conflict.

Reactions and Context

Both Moscow and Kyiv have previously accused each other of breaching ceasefires that they have individually declared.
