Temporary Restraining Order Granted to Sabrina Carpenter
US pop star Sabrina Carpenter has obtained a temporary restraining order against a man following multiple incidents she described as "deeply alarming" at her residence.
According to court documents reviewed by the LA Times and Rolling Stone, Carpenter's legal team is pursuing a full court order against William Applegate. Carpenter alleges that Applegate attempted to force entry into her Los Angeles home last month and returned on two additional occasions.
The singer stated that these events caused her "significant and ongoing fear" for her personal safety.
"His pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance has caused me severe and ongoing emotional distress," Carpenter wrote in a signed declaration.
Details of the Incidents
Carpenter, 27, who has achieved global recognition with top three hits in both the US and UK including "Espresso," "Please Please Please," "Taste," and "Manchild," claims that Applegate appeared uninvited at her home multiple times in recent weeks. She alleges he tried to break in and refused to leave when confronted by her security personnel, falsely asserting that he knew her and that she had been expecting him.
On 23 May, during one particularly "deeply alarming" incident, Carpenter states that Applegate trespassed onto a neighbor's property to reach her front door. He attempted to open it, rang the doorbell, and refused to leave until police arrived and arrested him.
"[He] fabricated the outrageous and entirely false claim that he personally knew me and that I was expecting him. This was a complete lie," Carpenter wrote.
She further reported that Applegate returned less than 24 hours later, loitering outside her house for several hours, and then came back the following day, parking outside her home.
Carpenter described the attempt to enter her home as "among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced."
Legal Actions and Court Proceedings
The Grammy-nominated artist submitted doorbell camera footage as part of her court filings and requested a restraining order to protect herself and two other residents: her sister and her sister's boyfriend.
On Friday, a judge temporarily granted the restraining order, mandating that Applegate maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from Carpenter, her residence, her vehicle, her workplace, and the other individuals living with her.
A subsequent court hearing is scheduled for 17 June. Applegate is also due to appear in criminal court on 18 June regarding his arrest for criminal trespassing.
Law Enforcement Assessment
Detective Peter Doomanis of the Los Angeles Police Department submitted a declaration with Carpenter's petition, expressing concern over Applegate's behavior.
"The pattern of his conduct, which may have begun as early as approximately 20 April 2026, reflects the hallmarks of a fixated, obsessional individual," Doomanis wrote.
"The trajectory is consistent with well-documented patterns of stalking behaviour that pose a serious and escalating risk [to] victim safety."
He also stated that Applegate has "developed a disturbing and irrational fixation on petitioner."
