Wildfire Warnings Issued Across Scotland

Wildfire warnings have been issued for several parts of Scotland as the country experiences a period of warm, dry weather.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), in collaboration with the Scottish Wildfire Forum (SWF), announced a "very high" risk of wildfires in south-west Scotland on Thursday.

From Friday through Monday, a similar warning will be in effect for central and eastern regions of Scotland.

Precautions Advised by Authorities

Kenny Barbour, head of prevention at SFRS, urged residents in the affected areas to avoid lighting outdoor fires, emphasizing the danger posed by even a single spark.

"Even a single spark can quickly escalate, causing widespread damage."

He further stressed the importance of simple safety measures to prevent severe consequences.

Barbour also encouraged the public to share these warnings with family, friends, and visitors to ensure broad awareness.

Authorities advise anyone who observes a wildfire to report it immediately by calling 999.

Recent Wildfire Incidents

This warning follows a recent fire on Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh. At the peak of the incident, three teams along with specialist wildfire resources were engaged in combating the blaze, which began on Monday.

Firefighters continued dampening down operations at the site on Tuesday.

Last year, a wildfire in Dumfries and Galloway led to two fathers and their sons being airlifted to safety during a camping trip. The fire occurred in Galloway Forest Park near Newton Stewart and caused extensive damage to the area.
