Men Charged Following Firearm Discovery Near Lockerbie
Two men have been charged after police found a firearm and ammunition in a vehicle near Lockerbie.
The vehicle was stopped on the M74 at approximately 19:55 on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to combat serious and organised crime, following a tip-off received by authorities.
The men, aged 35 and 39, were arrested at the scene and have been charged. They are scheduled to appear at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Monday.
Detective Superintendent Steven Elliott commented on the incident, emphasizing the dangers posed by illegal firearms.
"Firearms clearly pose a risk and cause harm to our communities, and this recovery sends a clear message to those involved that we will not tolerate their illegal activities."
He further highlighted the importance of public cooperation in addressing serious crime.
"We remain absolutely committed to tackling serious and organised crime, and information from the public is vital to this work."
