Fatal Collision at Level Crossing in Hoghton
A fatal incident occurred when a car was struck by a train at a level crossing in Hoghton, near Preston, Lancashire. The collision happened at approximately 08:50 BST on Thursday, according to British Transport Police (BTP).
Emergency services including paramedics and the fire service responded promptly to the scene. While there were no reported injuries among train passengers, the occupants of the car suffered severe consequences.

One person in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and a child sustained life-threatening injuries. The child was transported to Alder Hey Children's Hospital for further treatment.
"Two people were in the car and sadly one was pronounced dead at the scene, the other is being taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries."
North West Ambulance Service deployed multiple clinical teams, including the hazardous area response team and two air ambulances, to assist at the incident.
"Sadly, a child has sustained life-threatening injuries and has been taken to Alder Hey Children's Hospital for further treatment.
No passengers from the train required treatment from ambulance crews," a spokesman said.

Northern Trains announced cancellations of services running through Preston and Blackburn, substituting with bus replacements to accommodate affected passengers.
