Additional Charges Following Southampton Protests
Three more men have been charged in connection with protests in Southampton earlier this week, which followed the murder of Henry Nowak.
The individuals charged are Connor Bishop, 24, of Oxford Street, Southampton; Reece Robinson, 21, of Soberton Road, Havant; and Noah Etherington, 18, of Rowbury Road, Havant. All three face charges of violent disorder.
Context of the Protests
These charges come after demonstrations that occurred in response to the sentencing of Vickrum Digwa, 23, who was given a life sentence with a minimum term of 21 years for the murder of 18-year-old Henry Nowak in December.
Hampshire Police have confirmed that all three men are scheduled to appear at Southampton Magistrate's Court later.
Details of the Protests and Public Reaction
Protests took place on Tuesday following the release of police bodycam footage showing Nowak being handcuffed by officers despite his pleas that he could not breathe as he was dying.
Nowak, an 18-year-old student from Chafford Hundred in Essex, became the focus of a political debate after the footage was made public. The Prime Minister urged politicians to respect the wishes of Nowak's family and not to use the case to incite unrest.
"[The Prime Minister urged] politicians to heed the teenager's relatives' calls not to use the case 'to cause disturbances'."
Other Legal Proceedings Related to the Protests
On Thursday, Daniel Frost, 44, of Southampton, pleaded guilty to violent disorder and possession of a dog lead with a metal carabiner, which was considered an offensive weapon, in connection with the protests.
Additionally, Matt Styler, 50, of Gosport, has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting a police officer.
